Laundry’s First VinFast IronMan World Championships
Jackson Laundry competed in Kona for the VinFast Ironman World Championship this past weekend and completed the IM Pro Series. This year, Jackson decided to make the jump from 70.3 Ironman races and dove head first into the full distance, with Kona marking his 3rd Ironman of the year.
Racing on the new Ventum Tempus, showcased at Kona for the first time, Jackson broke two new bike course records early this year.
One thing you learn as a professional athlete is that you can be as prepared as possible, yet still experience the unpredictable. Just before the swim, Jackson was stung by a jellyfish! Despite the pain, he completed the swim and came out of the water strong.
Kona is known for its extreme heat, and Jackson struggled with overheating during the ride. As the temperature and humidity crept up, maintaining power became a challenge. Off the bike, the heat and humidity continued to affect Jackson, but fortunately, he found support from his competitors, fans, and family on course, and persevered.
This championship was a crucial moment for Jackson. Despite the challenges, finishing in the top 40 of a World Championship is incredible! Jackson’s journey highlights the unique challenges experienced by anyone racing an Ironman. Sometimes it’s not the result that matters, it’s the fact that you never gave up, even when you wanted to. When that voice inside your head is telling you to quit, you have two options. Which do you choose?
