Ben Hyde’s Bike Rises from the Ashes

Today marks the introduction of Jean Grey. My new #Ventum went out for its first test on the road. 70km later and I can’t wait to get back aboard. Carrying on my tradition of naming all my bikes after X-Men characters the Phoenix (Jean Grey) is the most obviously choice for the Ventum. . Just like over in the USA when I “test rode” one of these at the #Ironman703 World Championships, it felt so easy to make this bike move. It felt fast and safe. This is the bike that saved my race after the disappointment of a baggage handling breakage so you could say it helped me “rise up from the ashes” and it’s radical shape makes it one of the quickest bikes I’ve ridden (most powerful). This is what made my naming choice so easy. . After my bike fit yesterday by Mark at @bikefitstudiobrisbane I felt super comfortable the whole ride and I can see me only falling further in love with this machine. . So first thoughts on this bike: • riding with Di2 is terrific • the #Pioneer Dual-Sided Power Meter is going to help me develop my intuitive feel much quicker. I now have data to back up what I am feeling and I’m looking forward to utilising this in the coming months. • the #EDCO wheels feel so fast, surprisingly I didn’t feel like I was affected by the wind no matter what direction. I easily PR’d a segment into a headwind (I worked hard but still…into a headwind) and never felt like I was being blown sideways in crosswinds. This is partly down to the frame shape, partly down to the wheels. They are a deeper dish than I’ve ever ridden too which is what makes that surprise all the most pleasant. • I feel like this frame is just perfect, it’s so responsive when cornering. Once I got the feel for the bike I had more confidence than I ever had cornering at higher speeds and felt safer the whole time whilst doing it, this speaks volumes for the bike design. • the cockpit just works, it’s simple and the shape of the base bar is awesome. . . #cycling #triathlon #triathlete #ironman #im703 #shimano #sidi #kaskhelmets #endurancecollab #livevitalridevital
